Mrs. Phyllis Pledge (nee Sollman)
of Burk’s Falls
“We will miss the angel in our life”

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear Mom and Grandmother, Mrs. Phyllis Pledge (nee Sollman) peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.  Phyllis, beloved wife of the late Donald S. Pledge was in her 90th year.
Dear mother of Robin Van Mierlo (Gerry), Don Pledge (Jo-Anne), Bill Pledge (Vivian) and Dave Pledge (Dawn).
Proud grandmother of Robert Van Mierlo (Tricia) and Kari Van Mierlo (Adam), Kyle Pledge, Devin Pledge, Sarah Pledge (Pierre), Jesse Pledge (Danica), David Pledge (Kaylee) and Mahgen Pledge (Clay), Morgan Mars and Ryley Mars.
Great grandmother of Michael Van Mierlo, Scarlett, Beau Pledge and Ronan Pledge.
Phyllis is survived by her brother Larry Sollman (Pat) and predeceased by her parents Agnes (nee Courvoisier) and Christian Sollman also by siblings: Stan Sollman (late Joy), Myrtle Hughes (late Bill), Harvey Sollman (Barb) and Calvin Sollman.
She will be fondly remembered and missed by all of her nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Phyllis’ caring, sharing heart was always evident in everything she did.  Like bringing little boxes of lucky Elephant popcorn home to her family when she worked at Purity Popcorn in Toronto in her late teens. Phyllis also worked at Eastern Power Devices and furthered her education at Shaw’s Business School at night.
Phyllis and Don were married for more than 50 years, they were self-employed for the majority of those years.  They lived and raised their four children mostly in Burk’s Falls on the farm/homestead.

Mom loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart.  Her favorite pastimes and joy were to crochet and create beautiful afghan blankets.  They have been gifted around the world from Japan, California to British Columbia.  Every member of her family has a gift of her love in the amazing creations she would come up with.

Phyllis loved to listen to the Grand Ole Opry and all the country classic music.  She loved family get togethers and the musical abilities of each family member.  One of her favorite singers was Charlie Pride, the other was Loretta Lynn.

How lucky was our family to have had a Mom and Grandmother who gave so unselfishly of her love, time and encouragement.  Who provided pride within ourselves, guided and taught us in every way possible.  And she also made the best from scratch homemade pumpkin pies; she was a great cook.

Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel, 210 Ontario Street in Burk’s Falls.
If desired, memorial donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
