Obituary

Phyllis Evelyn (Bryon) Pink
Passed away peacefully on September 11, 2022 in her 99th year at Kingsway Lodge in St Marys.  Phyllis was born on June 15th, 1924 in Burks Falls, Ontario, the eldest daughter of William and Rose (Vanmeer) Bryon.   She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Cecil (1992).  She is the proud mother of Wanda (Rick) Bates of Hillsburgh and Murray (Alyce) Pink of St Marys; cherished Nana of Paul (Dawn) Bates of Everett, Andrea (Tim) Newell of Hillsburgh, Laura (Dan) Bradley of St Marys and Brad (Candace) Pink of Ilderton.  She is also the loving great grandma of Ava and Claire Newell, Amy and Andrew Bradley, and Benjamin and Audrey Pink.
Phyllis is survived by her youngest sister Bonnie (Max) Schotsch of Owen Sound.  She is the sister of the late Eldon (Mirth) Bryon, and the late Lois (Larry) Labine.  Aunt Philly is fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was born in Burks Falls and raised in Welland, where she completed elementary school, then returned to Burks Falls to complete her high school education.  She worked at the Burks Falls Arrow newspaper until her marriage to Cecil on June 15, 1946.  Along with a busy life on their dairy farm, she was active in many local organizations.  She was a life-member of the Burks Falls United Church Women and long-time choir member; she was an active life member of the Chalmers Women’s Institute; a leader of many 4-H homemaking clubs; and an area chairperson and Provincial Director of the Federated Women’s Institute of Ontario.  She was an Honorary Director of the Burks Falls Agricultural Society as well as Secretary of the Burks Falls Red Cross during the years the hospital was being built.  Phyllis was also recognized by the Burks Falls Lions Club for her role as club pianist for over twenty years.  She also shared her musical talents at local dances for many years.  While her life focused on her family and friends, she enjoyed travelling, quilt making, music and poetry writing.
She relocated to St Mary’s in 2012 where she enjoyed living at Kingsway Lodge.  Along with her family, she was especially thankful for all the wonderful staff who have cared for her there.  Phyllis was truly blessed with good health, good friends, good neighbours, and a caring family.
The family will receive visitors at the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel, 210 Ontario Street in Burk’s Falls on Saturday September 17, 2022, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm.  A service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be conducted in the chapel commencing at 2:00 pm on Sunday September 18, 2022 with Reverend Linda Newnham and Doreen Mason DLM officiating.  Interment will follow at the Burks Falls Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Burks Falls United Church, Kingsway Life Care Kingsway Lodge in St Mary’s, or a charity of your choice.
