It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Shawn Thomas Armstrong on Thursday August 6th, 2026 surrounded by his family. Shawn, a truly one-of-a-kind man who lived life with passion, pride, and generous heart.
Shawn was a man who could never be described as ordinary. He was fiercely loyal to the people he loved, passionate about his interests, and always found himself in the middle of whatever was going on.
Shawn is the beloved son of Tom and Linda Armstrong, brother of Alison Comer (Ben Galley), proud uncle of Allyssa Gilpin (Brandon), Karlee and Madissen Comer, and great uncle of Amelia and Greyson Gilpin.
He was a devoted father to his son, his pride and joy; Jack Crozier. Shawn also stepped up as stepfather to Maguire and Bowan Hopson. He is Papa to Levi and Piper, and son-in law to Lawrence and Marjorie Wickman.
Above all, Shawn was a loving husband and best friend to Wendy—his partner, confidante, and the person who kept moving forward no matter what. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, adventures and memories that will last a lifetime.
Shawn excelled as a grader operator, a career he took great pride in and approached with the same determination he brought to every part of his life.
Anyone who knew Shawn knew his work ethic and his love for fun: big trucks, pulls, and show-n-shines. Then there was his Jeeps; these weren’t just vehicles—they were his passion. He loved buying, fixing, building, and dreaming about the next project. If it had wheels, horsepower, and the potential to become a project, Shawn was all over it.
He never did anything halfway. Whether it was his work, his family, or his hobbies, Shawn gave everything he had. He was passionate, stubborn, funny, always honest and completely his own person.
Shawn will be deeply missed by his family, friends, his dog Moxie and anyone who was fortunate enough to know him. There will never be another Shawn.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever one of a kind.
A celebration of Shawn’s life will be held at the Katrine Community Centre, 6 Brown’s Drive in Katrine from 1 to 4pm on Saturday August 22, 2026 with opening comments at 1:15 pm. Please come prepared with a memory to share.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel.
If desired, memorial donations to Hospice Huntsville would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
