Ruby Mae Jenkins

Sadly, we announce the passing of Ruby Jenkins née Barnes of Sundridge, Ontario in her 92nd year. Ruby was the youngest and last surviving of 6 children that were raised on a farm near Bloomfield Church by their parents, Henry & Lucy Barnes. In 1953-54 Ruby attended Teacher’s College in North Bay and during this time began a serious friendship with her future husband Larry Jenkins (1937-2003). They were married in 1955 at Bloomfield Church and after a short time in Elliott Lake they moved to Pearceley Rd. There on the farm they raised their 3 boys who then blessed them with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruby taught at Sundridge Public School beginning in 1966 until 1991. After almost 3 decades of teaching the students of Sundridge, Ruby started travelling with Larry. She had many favourite locations that she frequented…Canada, Mexico & Europe. On many of these trips her friends accompanied her. On Thursday October 22nd visitors are welcome to Opatovsky Funeral Home in Sundridge at 9 Paget Street at 10:00 a.m. to pay their respects. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 2:30 in Chapman Cemetery, 69 Nipissing Rd. North in Magnetawan, Hwy 124 and Old Nipissing Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sundridge-Strong Union Library would be sincerely appreciated.
