Beloved husband of Arleen Johnstone (nee Cowan). Cherished father of Jeffrey (Sheri) Johnstone, Kelly (Morgan) Fetterly, Mike Johnstone and Jennifer Brisebois. Proud grandfather of Ava, Aden, Erin, Ethan, Olivia, Myles, Ashline, Benjamin and Dylan. Lovingly remembered by his sister Marilyn and sister-in-law Pat, and his beloved dog, Ted.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Fred and Evelyn (nee Summers), siblings Doug, Ross and David. Sadly missed by Shannon, his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Bob was born into a merchant family established in Sundridge in the 1800s. It was in his blood to carry on the legacy begun by his grandparents J.P. and Amanda.
Educated at Burk's Falls, Houghton Academy and Ryerson, he worked for a short time in Sault Ste Marie, Bracebridge and Trenton before returning to Sundridge in January 1963 to begin his partnership with his brother Dave which eventually led to the creation of Johnstone's IGA.
His longtime membership at the Presbyterian church was preempted by his upbringing at the Gospel Mission where his mother played the organ.
Bob was a past member of the Sundridge Bugle Band, Sundridge Lions Club, Happy Gang, the Sundridge Strong Public Library, Happy Gang Choir, Old Timers Hockey and Softball leagues.
While his business sense came from his dad, his love of family, compassion and humility was fostered by his mother.
While managing the IGA, Bob demonstrated these qualities donating both his time and resources to many community groups, members and customers and welcomed folks from far and wide.
He will be missed.
