Robert (Bob) Davies
passed away peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre at the age of 85 on March 1, 2022. Beloved husband of Iola Jessup (2016-2022) and Bea Davies (1962-2012). Loving father of Heather (Rob), Robyn (Babs) and Judy (Brian). He relished his role as grandpa Bob with Rhys (Hannah), Foster, Ethan (Emma), Michelle, Cecilia, Isabel, Bayo, Elizabeth and Erica. And he delighted in his great-granddaughters, Stella and Winnie Bea.
Bob lived a full and big life on his own terms. He loved to travel, sail, read, canoe, listen to CBC, build things in his woodworking shop and share his opinions on almost anything. He had a quirky sense of humour. He treated all people with respect and kindness. He was generous and always showed up for family, friends and neighbours. Bob was always there for you – you could count on him.
He came to this area over 50 years ago as the Superintendent of DARE and later became a teacher at Almaguin Highlands Secondary School until his retirement. He loved being a director of plays for the Sears Festival and for the Almaguin Highland Players, being a coach, a Scout leader, a Mason and so many other roles. Bob was part of the committee that began the South River Food Bank and he and Bea co-ordinated the foodbank for a time. For many years Bob drove for the Canadian Cancer Society. He was an avid volunteer.
Although part of his heart remained in Australia where he was born and raised and spent the first 20 years of his life, he loved this area, this community, its people. Bob’s family wishes to thank you all for your friendships and support over the years.
Thank you as well to the excellent healthcare team of unit 3A, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre who made the last week of Bob’s life peaceful.
A visitation and celebration of Bob’s life will be held Monday, March 7 from 1 -3 pm (visitation) with the celebration service beginning at 3 pm at Opatovsky Funeral Home-Moore Chapel, Sundridge, Ontario. PLEASE NOTE: the family have asked that you show proof of vaccination upon arrival, wearing of masks and respect social distancing .
