Peacefully and surrounded by his family at Eastholme in Powassan on Friday October 2, 2026. Oliver, beloved husband of the late Ina (nee Robins) for over 60 years, was in his 96th year.
Dear father of Debra Nadeau (Andre), the late Dwight Brooks and Diane Reid (late Rick).
Proud grandfather of Tammy Brooks (Nick), Jamie Brooks, Keira Reid, Shawnessy Reid (Samantha) and many great grandchildren. He is predeceased by grandson Kevin Brooks.
Oliver is survived by his siblings Shirley Schmidt, Audrey Empey, Beverley Schnider (Peter), Maynard Brooks (Jeananne) and is predeceased by siblings Edward Raaflaub, Lois Carpenter and Wayne Brooks (Betty) and his parents George and Matilda Brooks (nee Raaflaub).
Oliver joined the military in 1950 and served as a paratrooper in the Korean War where he was seriously wounded. He continued to serve in the military for over 22 years as a welder until his retirement as a Corporal at CFB Petawawa. He then worked as a Commissionaire on the Base until later moving to North Bay in 1979, where he then worked as a custodian at CFB North Bay until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the Legion in North Bay and always looked forward to helping and making meat pies every year. He was also an avid puzzler and enjoyed putting them together.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by all his family, friends, extended family at Eastholme and Legion comrades.
The family will receive visitors at the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Moore Chapel, 9 Paget Street in Sundridge on Thursday October 8, 2026 from 11am until 1pm.
A Legion Memorial service will commence at 1pm, funeral service will follow immediately with Reverend Rick Callery officiating.
Interment in Strong Cemetery.
If desired, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
