Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, September 22, 2025, he was in his 95th year. Beloved husband of Betty Bernas (nee Gavine). Cherished father of Dean Bernas (Karen) & Pam Kreps (Harald). Proud grandfather of Chelsea Porter (Dan), Cory Bernas, Taylor Kreps (Jay), Allyson Kreps, Rachel Kreps and great-grandfather of Preston Rowntree, Rory Polsky and Rae Porter. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his siblings Rosie Molnar (predeceased Gord), Dora Dombek (predeceased Frank), Agnes Drenth, James Bernas (Dianne) and he is predeceased by parents Joseph & Catherine Bernas, brother Walter (Phylis) Bernas, sisters Mary (Ross) Kuckyt, Helen Picton and in laws Ken & Charlotte Gavine. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and amazing friends.
Cremation has taken place at Forest Lawn Crematorium. Family will receive friends at the Magnetawan Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. followed by a Lions Club service at 6:15 p.m. and on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you please donate to a charity of your choice or one that Joe always supported such as the Magnetawan Presbyterian Church, Sick Kids Hospital or the Magnetawan Lions Club would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
