Ida Isobel O'Shaughnessy

At Huntsville Hospital on Saturday, March 2, 2024 with her husband Larry by her side, Ida O’Shaughnessy of Sundridge, Ontario formerly of Listowel, Ontario passed away in her 89th year. Beloved wife of Larry O’Shaughnessy.  Loving mother and mother-in-law of Tom Rheubottom (Dori), Heather Pauli (Ken) late Jim Rheubottom (Linda). Always remembered by grandchildren, Derrick, Sandi (Brad), Victoria, Daniel, Sarah and Erin, as well as great-grandchildren Kyler and Jamie. Dear sister of Jim Potts, Pat McClement, Susan Coghlin (Ron), and sister in law of Lil Henry, Allen and Grace Hamilton and Marilyn Potts.  Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Dear sister-in-law of Jackie McCullough, Sheila Beachey, Bill O’Shaughnessy. 

She is predeceased by her parents Tom and Ella (nee Smith) Potts, first husband Mel Rheubottom, loving son Jim Rheubottom, sisters, brothers and in-law Beth Lucas (Leonard), Gladys Newbigging (Clarence), Jean Edgar (Don), Glen McClement, Margaret Hartung (Dave), Gerald Potts (Heather), Luella Hamilton, Bill Potts (Denise), Shirley Potts, Dale O’Shaughnessy, Minnie Russell (Clarence), Cecil Rheubottom (Eva) and Evelyn Smith (Trevor). 

Ida grew up in Elma Township.  She was a loving sister of ten siblings. Ida was past president of the Ladies Legion Auxiliary and donating her time to the legion festivities. Ida enjoyed knitting for charities, visiting the shut-ins, especially spending time with family, babysitting her grandchildren, preparing meals for friends and family, hockey games, skating carnivals and also playing cards with dear friends Ron & Betty Attwell and Roger & Isobel Brimacombe.  Her favourite time of year being St. Patrick’s Day when she celebrated her birthday with green beer, green drinks, green potatoes, green corn and also dying anyone’s hair green who would dare. Ida also won the most deserving award - Senior Citizen of the Year.  One word to describe Ida would be selfless - she was the most giving, kind, happy, fun loving person to anyone who crossed her path. 

Family will receive friends at the Opatovsky Funeral Home- Moore Chapel on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 1-3 pm & 6-8 pm. There will be a Legion Service starting at 6pm.   A Funeral Service will be held at Opatovsky Funeral Home- Moore Chapel on Thursday, March 7, 2024 commencing at 11:00 a.m.  and the service will be Livestreamed, registration is below.  Burial will take place in the Spring of 2024 at Strong Cemetery.   If desired, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion BR#467 would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
