Danny Patrick passed away peacefully at Fairvern Long-Term Care in Huntsville, Ontario on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Danny was born on September 5, 1938 in Aurora, Ontario, the son of Bill and Emily (nee Cane) Patrick.
At a young age, Danny spent countless hours at the local hockey rink, following along with his Dad, who maintained the ice facilities in Aurora. Danny soon developed into a rising young hockey prodigy, catching the eye of many coaches looking to hone his skills. For the love of the game, Danny turned pro in 1959 at the age of 21 after four successful seasons of Junior Hockey with the Barrie Flyers. Although he had a slightly smaller physique than many of his opponents, Danny made up for this through determination and grit, enjoying 12 storied seasons in the United States East Coast Hockey League, the majority of which he suited up for the Johnstown Jets. Danny was a gifted forward, a deft puck handler and scorer, with a scrappy side that belied his size, much to the chagrin of his opponents. In the later stages of his hockey career, he played two additional seasons of Ontario Senior Hockey with the Orillia Pepsis and Barrie Flyers.
In the hockey offseason and after retiring from hockey, Danny focused on his passion as a skilled Stone Mason. With his independent business, he traveled throughout Ontario building fieldstone fireplaces that today are a testament to the skill, patience, and heart that Danny put into his life’s work.
For over thirty years Danny made an annual early-spring trek to Florida to spend time with family and friends, joining the many Canadian Snowbirds on the warm shores of the gulf coast. Danny and his family would often spend their days playing shuffleboard, mini-golf, cards, and endless games on the beach. He loved spending time with family and friends in the sunny south.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene Patrick (nee Martin), several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings Pat and Kathy; and countless friends and fans of the game of hockey. He is predeceased by his siblings, Bill Jr., Betty, and Mike.
A Private graveside service will be held at Strong Community Cemetery in Sundridge. Arrangements entrusted to Opatovsky Funeral Home – Moore Chapel.
Danny was warm-hearted and always looked for ways to share his kindness with everyone he met. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer Society Muskoka would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
The Family would like to thank the devoted caregivers and staff at Fairvern Long-Term Care for their unwavering care and support. Danny leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness as a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was an extraordinary man who will be dearly missed.
