Bruce Gordon Campbell

September 5, 1947 — May 10, 2026

of Burks Falls

Bruce Gordon Campbell, in his 79th year, of Burk’s Falls, passed away on May 10, 2026, at Hospice Huntsville surrounded by his family. Born September 5, 1947, in New Liskeard, Ontario, he was the son of Marjory and Gordon Campbell. The family moved to North Bay, Ontario, where he grew up and attended school.

Bruce attended Laurentian University in Sudbury and Teachers College in North Bay. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and held the rank of Second Lieutenant. During his time in the Navy he worked at the 1976 Sailing Olympics site in Kingston. While in Kingston he received the call about a teaching position at M.A. Wittick Junior Public School in Burk’s Falls.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Christine (Daniels); his sons, Iain (Darion) and Brent (Remily); and his grandson, Brody. He also leaves his brothers Alan (Linda), Glen (Ruth), and Norman (Marian); his sister Lorraine (Pierre) Cliche; brother and sister in law Danny (Kim) Daniels; and Linda Daniels (Don Chapman), as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Marjory and Gordon Campbell, and by his mother in law Dorothy (Daniels) and Stephen Carr.

Bruce was a well-respected teacher at M.A. Wittick Junior Public School from 1976 until his retirement in 2004. He loved to garden and always grew more than his family could consume, sharing the bounty—especially zucchinis and pumpkins—with friends and neighbours. Bruce loved fishing and would share his catch with friends and family. He enjoyed sports, both playing and coaching and had many fun years playing hockey with the Burk’s Falls Oldtimers.

Bruce loved his Toronto Maple Leafs and would eagerly defend his “beloved Leafs” if anyone disparaged the team within earshot. Bruce was a consummate volunteer and generous with his time; he was committed to improving the community, serving on the Village of Burk’s Falls council and as Chair of the Almaguin Health Centre Committee.

A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held June 6, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 405, 9 Mary Street, Burk’s Falls, ON.
