Beth Ellen Lamb (nee Johnston)

Mom peacefully passed away at Muskoka Landing in Huntsville on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 just one month shy of her 93rd birthday. Beloved wife of the late Alvin (2000), dear mother of David (Teresa Tsuji), Debra (Rebecca Hunter), and Donna Cockburn (Dirk). She was predeceased by her sons Donald (2017) and Brian (1960). Loving grandmother of Julie and Jeffrey Lamb (Lauren Zarnett), Kyle Wiese (Nicole) and Katelyn Wager (Dave). Loving great-grandmother of Bethany, Johanna, Aurora, Oaklynn, and Rhea. Also left to mourn her passing is her sister Donna LeClaire and several nieces and nephews.

Mom was born August 31, 1931, in South River, Ontario to Don T. and Alma Johnston. After high school she attended business school in Toronto after which she worked for her father’s South River BA service station and GM dealership doing bookkeeping. In 1952 mom married Alvin, her high school sweetheart, and they started their life and family together in Alliston, Ontario near Base Borden where dad was first stationed as an aeroengine technician for the R.C.A.F. The growing family was posted to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1959 followed by Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1964 and finally to Downsview, Ontario in 1970. Though far from hometown South River, the family always travelled back to spend July at the Johnston family cottage on Eagle Lake. After the kids were grown, Mom worked part time for many years at Simpson’s Yorkdale where she met and made many life-long friends. Saturday nights were always spent with Alvin dancing and dining at the “mess” on the base (wherever dad was posted!). Mom and dad both retired in 1993 and moved into their new Eagle Lake home built right next door to the original family cottage. Mom continued to live at the lake after dad’s passing, always welcoming family and friends for visits and lots of card playing!

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Muskoka Landing in Huntsville for helping her through her journey with dementia. We would especially like to thank Suzanne Hall for the constant support and care she gave to our mom. Rest in peace mom, we will miss you so much!

A Celebration of Life for mom will be held at the South River Legion (95 Ottawa Avenue) on Thursday, August 8 from 1- 3 p.m. For those considering a memorial donation, the family asks that such be made to your preferred charity with heartfelt thanks. Arrangements entrusted to Opatovsky Funeral Home- Moore Chapel.
