Arthur Burke

MR. ARTHUR HILLIARD BURKE of Mississauga and formerly of Kearney Peacefully at Constitution Place in Mississauga on Tuesday January 27, 2015. Mr. Arthur Burke, beloved husband of the late Gertrude (nee Brewer), was in his 92nd year. Beloved son of the late James and Mary Burke. Predeceased by siblings; William, Margaret, Thomas, Edward and Kathleen. Art will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Art was a bus driver with Grey Coach Lines and union official with the Amalgamated Transit Union. He had joined the army in WWII and served overseas with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. He saw service in England with the regiment and service in the Italian Campaign, Holland and Germany. He was wounded in 1944 in Italy but returned to the Regiment. He returned home to Canada in August 1945 and received his discharge in October 1945. Arthur was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was forty plus years with Todd Morden Branch 10 in Toronto and now a member with H. White Memorial Branch 276 in Kearney. The family will receive visitors at the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel, 210 Ontario Street in Burk's Falls on Friday January 30, 2015 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday January 31, 2015 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Burk's Falls commencing at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday January 31, 2015 with Father Martin Dalida officiating. Spring interment in St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery, Kearney. If desired, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
